Shred

This book is what is says: a guide to warp-speed guitar. It includes tips for increasing speed as well as a list of some of the greatest guitarists to grace the scene. The musical examples are fast, very fast. If you are not ready for shred, you may enjoy listening to the cd, but frustrated trying to play the examples because of their warp speed. The examples are played fast, then slow. The only problem is the slow examples sound like they are electronically slowed down versions of the fast examples, not actually played. They sound a little hokey.

A very disappointing book!!!!

The phrase "the ultimate guide to warp speed guitar" can mislead you. First, the list of "the top 30 speed demons of rock guitar", well I guess each one of us have their favorite shredders, so is unnecessary.

Second, this is not a book that cover in detail the "surefire techniques", there's no thorough examination of each technique featured. The exercises and examples are very basic. Instead of giving you recommended discography the author could explain the aspects that makes a song representative for each chapter.

For beginners, this "book" doesn't explain the basic things to play fast like the correct position of both hands, the more efficient way to hold the pick or how to use the metronome.

"The ultimate Guide to Warp Speed Guitar" is a book that I wouldn't recommend. Troy Stetina's "Metal Guitar Tricks" and "Speed Mechanics for lead guitar" and Carl Culpepper's "Terrifying Technique for guitar" are much better books-real books, not catalogues of "impressive" techniques. If you want to really develope your technique those books are great. Also Paul Hanson's "Shred Guitar" is a very interesting book, well structured and very useful.

DON'T BUY THIS BOOK! DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY!!

Pretty Lame...I recommend plenty of alternatives.

Upon glancing at the synopsis, this book initially sounds pretty interesting. Beyond the expected sections on alternate and sweep picking, the book offers sections on "blues shredding" and "speed riffing", which both sounded pretty cool and unusual.

However, as other reviewers have stressed, this volume simply does not deliver. It is very long on "guitar hero lore" and general descriptions of how they like to play, but very short on actual examples and licks that will help you become a better player, which I thought was the whole point.

We live in a world of limited time and resouces. If you want material that will cut to the chase and get you started improving your technique immediately, I have plenty of recommendations. Any book/DVD on this list will help you improve you technique significantly:

1. Speed Mechanics For Lead Guitar (Troy Stetina)
2. Terrifying Guitar Technique (Carl Culpepper)
3. Ultimate Guitar Technique: The Complete Guide (Bill LaFleur)
4. The "Speed Kills" Series (Michael Angelo Batio, metalmethod.com)
5. Shred Guitar Manifesto (Rusty Cooley, chopsfromhell.com)

The one from Rusty is pretty intense, so I might suggest starting with one of the others. I like the ones from Troy and Michael best, because they go into some detail about how to perform various techniques. The ones from Carl and Bill are more like "Here's a jillion exercises. Now play!" Which is useful too, because it can show you what general areas to concentrate on, but they don't go into much detail about what to focus on while practicing specific techniques.

I hope you find something of value here, and I wish you luck in becoming blazingly fast.

Fills in Many Gaps

I needed this book.

Until this book I was mostly getting variations on the same theme. Commonly repeated throughout my 25+ volume Reagan library (hardcopy, audiobook & Kindle) is the story of his life...the oft-told high points...lifeguard on the Rock River, college kid & football player, novice sports broadcaster & prime Midwest play-by-play announcer, actor, soldier, union leader, anti-communist activist, divorced actor, re-married actor in career decline, brief Vegas showman, TV star, GE pitchman & plant visitor, politics-dabbler, Governor, 3x presidential candiate, weekly radio commentator, President, and Alzheimer's victim.

All the tellings of the above high points glossed over (or completely ignored) the in-between stuff. With each retelling of the high points, I'd wonder, "I wonder if he ever..." or "what was he thinking at that time?", etc. The glue-stuff that holds the story together.

Written in 1965 (and according to Peter Robinson, a Reagan speechwriter) 75% by himself (there is a ghost writer), he fills in the blanks for us up to that date. And for those (in the 1980's & 90's) who joyously declared Reagan an empty suit, they need to read about his union involvement and his well-reasoned transformation from "very liberal Democrat" to conservative.

If you need to adress that Reagan "fix" you're going through, this book will definitely help you.

A book about Value Proposition that will add value through many reads

In the introduction to this book, and in Chapter 1, the authors set the stage for the rest of the story by talking about what a value proposition (VP) is and is not. Unfortunately for me, I had been so brainwashed that I still thought that a VP was what I now know as a positioning statement. A VP is different: a detailed plan “describing the value experience that you deliver” from the customer’s perspective.

Once I got the crap out from between my ears I was able to sink my teeth into the book and go crazy with my highlighter. I expect you will have the same reaction when you start reading.

The VP is a document which describes in detail how your customers will experience the use of your products and services, how your employees will be motivated to deliver these experiences, how the organization must be aligned to do all this quickly and economically, and how the complete message will be communicated to all stakeholders; customers, prospects, employees, owners and suppliers. Getting all this right is a serious piece of work. Fortunately, our authors recognized this when they wrote this book.
The book’s organization walks us through the whole VP creation process. They start with analysing the market and end with a fully developed plan which includes the frequently missing implementation section.

To make the VP creation process easier for us, the authors include a broad selection of figures, comparison tables and my favorite – lists of sample questions so we can begin all the necessary conversations with a group of targeted questions which will lead to follow-up questions which will eventually lead to us getting the actionable insight we need to move ahead.

BTW: one of the last steps, discussed in Chapter 12, is the creation of the positioning statement. It took over half the book to get there!

I can’t imagine anyone reading this book and not coming away with a lot of incredible insights. And the subject is so broad and deep that I am sure that when I reread this book next year I will feel as though my time was well spent and I learned a number of new things.

Intended for a one-semester course, this thoroughly revised text includes updated references to primary research, new chapters on parasites that afflict AIDS patients, new illustrations, and coverage of emerging and increasingly important parasites such as Cryptosporidium and Cyclospora. Intended to appeal to a wide variety of students in the health professions, as well as to biology students in related disciplines, this comprehensive yet compact book will be useful as a reference both in and out of class.

About the Author
Burton J. Bogitsh received his undergraduate education in biology at New York University (University Heights) and his graduate education at Baylor University (M.A.) and the University of Virginia (Ph.D.). He is currently Professor Emeritus of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has authored more than 100 publications in the area of parasitology and has co-authored a textbook in General Zoology. He is an associate editor of the Journal of Morphology, co-editor of Volume 2 of the Microscopical Anatomy of Invertebrates, and has contributed many chapters to numerous edited volumes on parasitology. His research interests are in the ultrastructural localization of enzymes in helminths with a primary focus on the digestive tracts of trematodes.

Dr. Carter received his B.A. and M.A. degrees in biology at Loma Linda University and his Ph.D. degree at the University of California at Los Angeles. He is currently a Professor Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University. He has authored more than 70 publications with a primary focus on the biochemistry and immunology of parasites. He has contributed chapters in several edited volumes such as The Biology of the Tapeworm, Hymenolepis diminuta, and has served on the editorial board of the Journal of Parasitology. His current research interests are centered on the host-parasite interactions of the causative agent of Chagas’ disease, Trypanosoma cruzi.

This "Human Parasitology" text provides a balanced introductory view, as it concerned the interactive association between various parasites and their hosts. Its concise and reader-friendly format is a big plus: as it ensured that anyone who reads it will understand the message.
This book is clinically relevant. Its carefully selected contents were designed in such a way that will appeal to students of Zoology, Medicine, Veterinary medicine, Microbiology, Medical laboratory science, and Agriculture.
Discussed in details are various intestinal parasites like: Nematodes, Cestodes, and Trematodes. It also took care of many pathogenic protozoa like: Plasmodium and Entamoeba species. And, there are well-written chapters, which thoroughly analyzed both the Laboratory Diagnosis of Parasitic Diseases and the capabilities of various Antiparasitic Agents.

this book helped me get an A in my parasitology class! is a great book and very easy to read. unfortunately, there aren't many pictures that are in color. but, regardless, i would highly recommend this book for anyone taking parasitology!

Because euphemisms are so intimate and integral to our thinking, any study of them is bound to throw light on the human condition, both past and present. In these essays, humor jostles horror and the homely alternates with the farfetched. Taken together they form an eloquent and often amusing testament to the richness of the subject.

Worth a read!

An academically substantial, and yet non-boring set of essays looking at how euphemisms pervade and characterize every aspect of human life. There are some true gems in here. Most of it is delightful to read and you get the sense that, while the authors are at the top of their game, they are stretching back a bit on the easy chair and having some fun. It's quite well written. Which is good, because the last thing you want is a book about language which is, well, poorly written and shows no mastery of language.
